JavaPOS
JavaPOS for Datalogic Connect, also referred to as SDS JavaPOS, is the Datalogic JavaPOS driver with one additional feature: communication to and from AladdinSDS, the device integration service that is part of Datalogic Connect. Through this integration, the scanners a JavaPOS application uses are the same ones AladdinSDS reports to Datalogic Connect.
This is a preview version of JavaPOS, intended for evaluation only. For more information on the platform and on AladdinSDS, see the Datalogic Connect documentation and the AladdinSDS documentation.
Scope
This section covers the installation and configuration of SDS JavaPOS on a POS (point of sale) system where AladdinSDS is installed. SDS JavaPOS communicates with AladdinSDS over HTTP and WebSocket, or over HTTPS and secure WebSocket (WSS) with SSL/TLS certificates, on the port that AladdinSDS uses (9000). It runs on Windows and Linux/Ubuntu with a Java 8 or later runtime.
Application integration, the Java platform requirements and the base configuration files follow Datalogic JavaPOS. This section documents only what SDS JavaPOS adds: the AladdinSDS transport, the extra support libraries and the additional configuration attributes. For the platform and application integration guides, see Developing with JavaPOS.
Core concepts
SDS JavaPOS builds on the following concepts:
- AladdinSDS transport: The HTTP/WebSocket channel between SDS JavaPOS and AladdinSDS, secured with SSL/TLS when AladdinSDS requires it. Eight support JAR files in the
SupportJarsdirectory provide it. - dls.properties: The device and connection settings file. Three additional key-value pairs define the CA certificate, the PKCS#12 client certificate and its password for SSL/TLS.
- jpos.xml: The JavaPOS device registry. Three SDS-specific properties,
deviceBus,ipAddressandipPort, select the AladdinSDS transport and address; a newserialNumberelement identifies the device. - Device bus:
SDS-COMfor scanners on the USB-COM interface. See Configuration for thedeviceBusvalues.
For a description of how these parts fit together, see Overview.

Get started
New users should follow this sequence:
- Install AladdinSDS on the POS system. See the AladdinSDS documentation for the installer and the installation procedure.
- Install SDS JavaPOS with the setup JAR, as described in Installation.
- Configure
dls.propertiesandjpos.xml, then launch your application, following Quickstart.
Use the navigation pane to access the concepts and tutorials that apply to your deployment.
